Valentine is a Saint!
The reason behind the celebration of this special day is a saint named Valentine who lived around 270 AD in Rome. During that time, marriage was banned in Rome so lovers who plan on marrying meet St. Valentine on a secret place for the sacrament of matrimony. Because of this, Valentine was sent to prison and eventually he fell in love with the jailor's daughter. It is said that before his execution, he sent a farewell message to the jailor's daughter with a phrase "From your Valentine". St. Valentine was martyred for not renouncing his faith and believed to be executed on February 14, 270 AD.(Source)
